The Speed Secret: How Searing Steak Gets You a Gourmet Meal in Minutes
(SFMM) Lesson 13: Why Searing Steak Is the Fastest, Tastiest Meal You’ll Ever Make
Today, I want to share with you one of my favorite and best ways to cook a fast, convenient and easy meal.
The stovetop skillet steak sear.
Why is this my favorite?
To answer this question completely, let’s go back to the very beginning of my story, shall we?
Long, long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was a newly divorced man in my late thirties.
I didn’t know how to cook, and I was completely lost in the kitchen.
I was working extraordinarily long hours, and coming in late at night, sometimes after 10 pm.
Eating frozen TV dinners became my way of life.
After a while of kitchen fumbling and bumbling (and way, way too many of those nauseating TV dinners), I finally stumbled upon the world of stovetop skillet meals.
At this point in my culinary journey, I had not begun reading any cookbooks or doing any cooking research.
None of the food network channels on cable TV had started yet (Remember, I said Long, long ago) and so I hadn’t started watching those. So, I don’t exactly remember how I got the idea to start doing this.
But I realized that I could throw a raw steak in a hot skillet, sear it for a few minutes each side, then throw in the vegetables I wanted and presto, I had a steak dinner.
WOW! This one little idea changed my whole life. I went from scraping-by and struggling in the kitchen to indulging myself with steak dinners. It was a big change for me. Are you with me?
Anyway, long story short, this idea turned my whole world around, and it can turn your world around, too.
So, let's dive into the sizzling symphony of searing, an art that transforms ordinary ingredients into culinary masterpieces.
