While Trump laid out a vision for the future, Democrats responded with pettiness and political theater.

As Trump spoke about his election victory and mandate, Green stood up, pointed his cane at the president, and shouted, "You don't have a mandate." Despite multiple warnings from House Speaker Mike Johnson to maintain decorum and sit down, Green continued his protest.

Consequently, Johnson directed the House Sergeant at Arms to escort Green out of the chamber, an action met with applause and chants of "USA" from Republican members.

Green's interruption was part of a broader display of dissent from some Democratic members during the address. Several Democrats wore "resist" shirts, and others walked out in protest of Trump's remarks. Green, known for previous impeachment attempts against Trump, stated that he accepted potential repercussions, viewing the protest as necessary to defend social programs.

In response, House Republicans, led by the Freedom Caucus, has censured Green, deeming his actions "shameful,” with a vote of 224 to 198, on Thursday, March 6, two days after Trump’s speech.
