A Plea for Fairness: Stop the Relentless Attacks on President Trump
Reflecting on Decades of Leadership, Today I'm Venting My Outrage at the Unprecedented Vilification of President Trump and His Family
"The fake news media is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American people." — Donald J. Trump
GONNA VENT HERE.
Listen, today I'm calling it like I see it.
This ain't my first rodeo. I’ve been around the mulberry bush way more times than I’d like to admit.
I have lived through JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden.
I've literally seen it all: the horrors of war, political marches, demonstrations and riots. One by one, they have all risen and fallen like staggered soldiers on the battlegrounds, leaving their pithy stain on the flickering screen of my now-wanning recollections.
I remember sitting on the floor in front of our big black and white console TV when I was five years old watching President Kennedy on the evening news.
When Ronald Reagan was president, I remember a time when the country seemed to have a different tone from today, a sense of respect for the office of president, even if people disagreed with his policies.
Reagan, with his charisma and clear vision, faced criticism, sure—there were debates over his economic policies, the Iran-Contra affair, and his approach to the Cold War.
But I don’t recall the relentless, personal, and vicious attacks that we see today with President Trump.
The media and public discourse back then focused more on policy disagreements than on tearing the man apart, humiliating his family, or dissecting every word to paint him as a villain.
It felt like there was still a line of decency, a shared understanding that the president was a human being leading the nation, not a punching bag for endless outrage.
Something has changed in this country, and it’s not for the better.
The cruelty and hatred directed at Trump, his wife, and even his children feel unprecedented, fueled by a media and cultural shift that thrives on division and sensationalism.
Unlike Ronald Reagan’s era, where disagreements were often grounded in ideas, today’s attacks are personal, vindictive, and amplified 24/7 by a news cycle that seems to profit off rage.
Even when Richard Nixon was being impeached, I remember there seemed to be at least an air of respect for the office of the president. I was just a teenager then, but even at that age I could tell there was some semblance of civility. It's a difference I can clearly discern to this day.
Honestly, I don't remember any personal attacks on Nixon’s wife or family during the whole Watergate ordeal.
What has changed?
What has happened?
Where is our country heading?
And if left unchecked, what will be the final outcome?
"The idea that you can stretch the law, bend the law, distort the law to go after a particular individual because you don't like his politics or because you don't like him is a very, very dangerous precedent."
-Alan Dershowitz, legal scholar and former Harvard Law professor, on the legal actions against Trump. — From an interview on Fox News, discussing the legal cases against Trump, particularly the New York hush money trial, May 2024.
This growing venom in our politics, this willingness to dehumanize and slander, is eroding the soul of the nation. It’s as if we’ve lost the ability to disagree without destroying, and I fear what this means for our future if we can’t find our way back to civility.
In my long lifetime, I have never seen or heard of a President being scrutinized over every word he speaks, humiliated by the public to the point of wanting to hurt someone, slandered, ridiculed, insulted, and lied to.
I have never heard their wives or children threatened, insulted, and humiliated.
I am truly ashamed of the behavior of The Deep State Democrats, the Golbalist Elites, the RINO Republicans and the fake news media in this country.
I am ashamed of the ruthless, cruel Trump haters who have no morals, and news reporters who feel they have the right to purposely lie and chastise the president.
Every past President was left to run the country after they were elected and had taken the oath of office.
They weren’t on the news 24/7 being drawn and quartered, every word and sentence dissected, constantly pressured to do this or that without an ounce of moral support.
ENOUGH is ENOUGH!
LEAVE THE MAN ALONE.
LET HIM DO HIS JOB.
